Self Managing GAL distribution lists

Distribution Lists, GAL, Exchange

Hi,

I work for a large company who wants to allow authorized users to self manage their own distribution lists in the GAL.

How is this done?
3rd party tools?

Can you direct me some some documentation about this process and any suggested/recommended 3rd party tool greatly appreciated.

If you set up a distribution group in AD (Active Directory), you can set the group’s manager and allow them to manage that group’s members.
Go into the properties of the group in AD and select the “managed by” tab. click the “change” button and select the person you want to be able to modify members of this group. Then place a checkmark in the box that says “Manager can update membership list”.
Once this is done that person will be able to select the group in outlook, go to properties, click the “modify members” button and add and remove members of the list. This takes the responsibility off your network administrative team to maintain the distribution lists. I would highly recommend this option!
