Security issues for MySQL in a cloud environment?

Hi everyone! In general, I've been asked by my manager to find out about running a MySQL DB on a cloud -- has anyone done this, and what do you think are the security issues that can come up when doing so? More specifically, IT has questioned me about how auditing would work on a cloud, and what issues need to be taken account with such a move. I'd be glad to hear about anyone's experience with this issue. Thanks, M

Whether your systems are in, on, or around the cloud, there are plenty of issues you need to keep in mind both at layer 7 (the application layer) and at lower levels with your servers and network components.

You need to ask yourself: What are we trying to do? What systems do we have? What information is accessible? How is this information at risk? What, specifically, can we do to minimize those risks?
