SDM is only for configuring routers, not the PIX or ASA.

The ASA has it's own GUI configuration manager, ASDM, that is loaded into flash, just like the operating system. If you https: to the ASA it should load providing the following commands are in the config

http server enable
http a.b.c.d 255.255.255.0 inside

and I think it also needs the command

management-access inside
