Get Error when attempting to search all mail in IBM Lotus Notes 8.5 Release 8.5.1 FP2; 'Searching application' has encountered a problem. Error

Answer Wiki:
Delete and recreate the database index.
  1. Select the Notes application and from the menu, click File > Application > Properties.
  2. Click the Full Text tab (the magnifying glass).
  3. Delete Index -- Delete a full-text index.
  4. Create Index -- create index.
Note: If you do not have the proper access level, the Update Index, the Create Index, and the Delete Index buttons are grayed-out (disabled) on the Full Text panel.

Did you enable the option of “Search This View “???
On “Edit Menu” select “Search This View ” then seatch … or Press “Ctrl+F” then search for what ever you want .

By the way why dont you upgrade your Lotus Notes client to the latest 8.5.3 ?? or at least you can install FP4
