Script to Configure Internet Explorer 8
We are trying to figure out a faster way to configure our user's IE8 to be able to work with a specific site we use.  We were able to add all the Trusted Sites using GPO and enabling our users but wasn't able to see how to change the custom settings to Enable Active X and to Check and Uncheck specific boxes under the Advanced tab.  Anyone know if this is possible with GPO.  Maybe someone knows of a script that can be used and we can modify to configure what we need.  Here are the details: Client machine: * Windows 7 Pro * IE8 Server: * Windows 2003 Standard Edition Thanks

Software/Hardware used:
Windows 7 Pro, Internet Explorer 8, Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition

Answer Wiki:
Try looking into GPP (Group Policy Preferences). If you using Win 7 you really should be on a 2008 domain. There are many many features a 2003 domain can't use in Win 7. You should have more luck with this. Alternatively you can use the Win 7 client to access the AD and you will be able to use the GPP settings without having to move to higher functional level with your domain.

Hi,

Have you looked at microsoft support site?
In this link they say that you can change the Advance tab settings.

Tell us if you had tried it.
Regards.

The question is do you want to lock the settings or populate the setting?

GPOs set and enforce items. Set trusted sites in the HKLM/Computer settings so that users can still add sites.

You can use wither a custom GPO template to set and enforce or a script to initially set (and push back out to reset).

Can you detail which settings and in which zones you want the settings?

The best reference I found from MS on what each registr value in the zones mean.
