I would like to create a script that parses an excel spreadsheet column with user's full names (I.E. 'John A Smith') and inserts a period (.) after the middle inital character. (I.E. 'John A. Smith')
Once the middle inital period has been inserted, I would like the script to query Active Directory using the User's full name and output the person's User ID (Example: JASMITH) in the coumn next to the existing full name. Does anyone have a script that performs this? The User ID is not always what its expected to be so this is the reason for the AD query, the ID needs to match exactly what is in AD for the user.
I think VBscript would be the best way to accomplish this overall, but as far as inserting the period prior to the AD query, I think possibly SQL would be a good option? What would be the best way to acomplish this? If anyone has a script that does this or something very similar it would be greatly appreciated.
