Comments on: Script on AS/400 MAM Console

Now that we’ve established that it isn’t a “MAM console” (and I still don’t see why you called it that), we’re close to understanding what you want. But why can’t you show us your own console?

That makes it sound like it’s completely different from what you are showing us. And that makes it impossible to know how to create any kind of script. (A better name might be “macro” instead of “script”.)

Is the “console” an iSeries Access emulator session? Or is it something else? Without knowing what it is, no scripting advice is possible. Each kind of device will a different method of scripting.

What you seem to be referring to as a MAM console looks to be a System i Access session.

The WIN5250 Client looks to be similar but not being familiar with the product I can’t say if the functionality is equivalent.

Am I correct in assuming you’re looking for a way to delete the items listed on the WIN5250 Client picture?

Well, it looks like that. (yes, i know that is not a MAM console, but i can't show my own) First column and second one are most important. The script should check first row, put a mark on field in first column only if in second column find a word from external *.txt file. After that, should start check second row and like that, and like that...

Well, that does clear it up a little. (Why call it a “MAM console”?)

But now it’s not clear what you want to be deleted. What will be displayed when deletions are done? Where are you expecting a ‘script’ to execute?

Such a script could only run on the workstation. And it couldn’t ‘delete’ anything from the screen, though it could potentially send workstation keystrokes and delete typed characters or characters in an input/output field.

What kinds of things are you expecting to ‘delete’?

This is the only MAM console that I am aware of. If you have a different one, please explain what it is. -- Tom

So far, I can’t see any useful way to have a MAM console work with an AS/400. It seems to be intended to connect to a games server, not an AS/400, though I can see how it could be adapted. I can’t, however, see any reason for it since PuTTy would be a much better choice for most uses.

Since installation and configuration instructions are written in German, parts aren’t totally clear. But it does seem that install instructions are for a Windows server and not an AS/400.

Where are install instructions found for AS/400s?
