I have removed the server from a school and brought it to my house I have on the login screen username and password and in the log into column it states the alasr.. assuming this is the domain, but I cannot choose this machine only? SBS2003 R2

if you see only the domain this happens because this is the Domain Controller and not a member server.

Domain Controllers do not have local accounts, which is why the option to log onto the domain was removed. In order to log in locally you would need to run dcpromo and remove this machine from the domain.

    so does this mean I would need to reconnect to a network adaptor prescribing the IP it was using as a gateway address??
