I found the question a little bit confusing. Office does not 'automatically' save files. It saves files when the user tell it to do so. Also, are these files being 'downloaded' from the web ? are they e-mail attachments ?

Microsoft office products do have an auto-save feature Carlos. If you have ever had a pc reboot in the middle of working on a document, when you re-start your pc and open office again it will show you a list of "auto-saved" documents or excel spreadsheets or what have you and will ask which version you want to save.
