SAP and SAS are competitors in the area of Business Intelligence and Analytics. SAP purchased Business Objects, and this is their basis for most of what they refer to as their Analytics offerings. These offerings are in addition to SAPs offerings in ERP, CRM and others. SAS is formally know as SAS Institute – a software company from Cary, NC was founded on an Analytical project at NC State University creating tools for statistical analysis. Often SAS analytics are used by customers who also us SAP for ERP applications.
