I think you are referring to SAS and SAP.
SAAS is on-demand application-software as a service where is license to the
application is provided to the Customer. The customer can login to the UI with his
user id and password and login to the system as per the license.
Database maintenance won't be with the the customer.

SAP purchased Business Objects, and this is their basis for most of what they refer to as their Analytics offerings. These offerings are in addition to SAPs offerings in ERP, CRM and others. SAS is formally know as SAS Institute – a software company from Cary, NC was founded on an Analytical project at NC State University creating tools for statistical analysis. Often SAS analytics are used by customers who also us SAP for ERP applications.
