hi, first of all, please write the next time, what you install (SAP R/3 4.6C, BW ,....) on what maschine under which Database. This Inst Step tryies to initiat the workbench for transports. This is done be a RFC Call to client 000 with standart password 19920706 for user DDIC, if you had change the users password this will fail.( 1. possibility) I exspect that this is a new Standart inst on Windows? Then the most time this is a problem with the hostname, mostly different from OS to SAP, cause SAP is case sensitive for the host name and so he cant connect to the RFC Server.(2. Possibility) Then you may have some bigger problems. Or your SAP System is down at this time(3. Possibility). There is a work around. At this time you can start SAP. If it isnt started a this timeby the inst process. Then logon to client 000 user ddic and start the report RSWBOINS in Transaction SE38. this is exactly the same as this Inst step will do. if you are installing 46C edit your R3S script , find "ERROR" and replace it with "OK". --You must be care full, and you must know what you are doing....;-) Start the inst againg and it will finish. But take care without futher knowledge of your installation, for my side, these are only tips not the last wisdom.. Have fun and good luck Rainer
