I am not a career consultant. But I try to answer to my best ability.
Your question is similar to the age-old question – which career is the right one for me? I can understand your dilemma. You need to consider your interests – is it technical or business side of SAP? In technical area, it has – ABAP, XI, Netweaver, Basis, etc. Even BW is more of technical rather than business nature. On the Business side – you may be a functional consultant in one or more areas – such as Fi/CO, HR, MM, PP etc. It also depends on the geograhical area of you interest, which will dictate the scope of your being able to use your expertise. In Middle East or Texas, you can be a PI (Process Industry) consultant, not in say NY.
You need to see what you enjoy doing. Would you be in enjoying what you do or just making money?
You can discuss with various SAP professionals re: what they do and see what interests you.
As most decisions need, you would start a decision table with criterias, must have, desirable to have, etc.
Quite often people start with some thing but switch or go on to another area. It is like your professional qualifications. I know some one did a 4-year Engineering degree and then found some thing else interested him and started all over. In fact I was in mainstream IT for 29 yrs; then switched to SAP when a company offered to train and employ – that was 10yrs ago.
Best of Luck!!! Hope it works well for you.
