Both the dirty data and user adoption issues can be resolved if you take their current processes and automate them. Look at what they do every day and see if you can make it easier. Once they see what's in it for them you then can begin putting data restraints on the system. You know the old saying, garbage in garbage out. Keep it simple in the beginng and create a broad series of activity codes. In six months, review the codes with the sales/marketing manager and fine tune them.
