Running RMAN (Oracle 9.2.0.8 Enterprise Edition) over network fails with ORA-12560


ORA-12560, Oracle Recovery Manager, RMAN, Oracle 9

Running RMAN (Oracle 9.2.0.8 Enterprise Edition) over network fails with ORA-12560 - TNS Protocol Adapter error. In RMAN cmd file I've tried re-directing to OraHome with \dev-oraclec$oracleora92 as well as directly to the mapped drive: Z:oracleora92. Both fail with same error. I also set TARGET_INIT_FILE to its' location using the same redirect.

Must I get on the server directly to to enable RMAN to run? What am I missing?
