RPC server unavailable

RPC, WMI, Remote access policies, RSoP, Patch management

I am trying to run a resultant set of policy (logging mode) on pc's here in the office so I can get an idea of where things stand from a patch management standpoint. I am unable to run RSOP on a small handful of pc's; it attempts to run and errors out, telling me to ensure that WMI is enabled on the remote pc, and the error detail states "RPC server is unavailable". I've been trying to install VNC remotely to the pc's and have tried to open the port through netsh -r, but I get the message "RPC server is unavailable" there as well. Any direction on where to go and what to change so that I can have remote access to all pc's here is much appreciated.

For checking Windows patch status, I suggest the MBSA tool from MS.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/tools/mbsa2/default.mspx

there is also a visio plug in that will allow you to initiate a scan from a visio network drawing.
