Routing Entries

I am having a problem setting up my as400 routing entries to handle both our subnets and the internet. Our iseries has never been connected to the internet so this is new territory for me. Here is our original default routing entry: Route Destination: *DFTROUTE Subnet: *NONE NextHop: 176.100.1.2 With this entry I can ping the firewall (176.100.203.1) and anything on our local 176 and/or 172 subnets. But I can't ping any internet addresses. If I change the default to the following: Route Destination: *DFTROUTE Subnet: *NONE NextHop 176.100.203.1 I can now ping the firewall, all the 176 subnet and and internet addresses. But I can't ping the 172 subnet locations. I can probably get our network admin to setup a routing entry on the firewall to point to the 172 subnet. But I think I should be able to setup the routing entries on the as400 to handle both subnets. I've tried several entry combinations on our test partition including multiple defaults, specifying subnet values, etc. but I haven't been able to get anything to handle both the internet and our 172 subnet. Can anyone give me any advice on how I can make this work?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If your AS400 has two interfaces, one connected to the 176.100.* network and one connected to the 172.* network , then what you need to add these routing entries..

Route Destination: *DFTROUTE
Subnet: *NONE
NextHop: 176.100.1.2

and

Route Destination: 172.0.0.0
Subnet: 255.0.0.0
NextHop: 172.???.???.???

where the next hop is the router/switch on the 172.0.0.0 network

hope this helps…

I actually got this to work a few days ago by using the following: *DFTROUTE *NONE 176.100.203.1 172.16.0.0 255.255.0.0 176.100.1.2
