Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I know this may sound obvious but where did you store the file? Double check the configuration of the tftp server and make sure the file is in the directory specified. Also, make sure you have good connections between all the cables.

please make sure to configure which interface of the router to be used for performing the tftp. without that, the tftp connection might get timed out. i saw that in many of our routers. thanks, ajay

Maybe a stupid point to state, but make sure that you have an ethernet connection to the router on the specific address/interface and not just the console cable. The console cable is used for terminal access only, not tftp transfers. You could xmodem it over the console cable, but that is extremely slow. Good luck. SF

Since your ftp server is working fine there seem to be only two possibilities. The file is in the wrong directory or the router end isn't working. If all else fails, here is a link on doing it from the monitor: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps221/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008007cd0e.html

    1) Make sure the tftp server is set up to send files 2) Ensure default gateway on PC is the routers interface 3) Ensure the router has enough space in flash: to store the image 4) Have you tried FTPing the image instead? I don't know if it's possible in your IOS version 5) Worst case, download the image across the console cable using xmodem. It's slow, but it'll at least get there. Good luck, SF

Just a guess, but I'd say that you probably uploaded the file right after you changed the default gateway and didn't do a reboot. Most likely the reason that it worked is that the computer still had the MAC Address in the cache and used it to upload the file. If this is the case, if you do a reboot on the system, the upload should fail unless your default gateway is set correctly. Glad to hear the problem is solved. SF

A console port will not route. Therefore it does not know how to get to the ip address specified. You can verify this by doing a sh ip route and look for address. Hook up your pc and router to a hub on the same network range and it will work fine. Verify connectivity using ping from the router and make sure firewall on pc is open for tftp.

Console port is just a serial connection. Please verify IP connectivity between the PC and the router by checking the routes and pinging each other. Or, connect your PC's ethernet directly to the router (with proper IP Address) to do TFTP. -Ajay
