I think you would be right to look at the printer. You can go to each of them and print a configuration page from the menu. If there is not one you can usually hold down a page feed or cancel button to print the configuration. I would check the manual first.

I would also pay attention to the size and orientation of the paper in the trays and see if it matches was it in the configuration page.

Good luck.

SO, the story so far
Took a production print and set it to save before the user printed it . the remote print ignored the tray selection. Sent the spoolfile to Box2, printer2, and it's OK.
Reconfigured a printer on Box2 to be identical to printer 2, using the printer1 IP address, and reprinted the spoolfile to the remote printer1 - again it ignored tray controls.

Same device - same spoolfile. same result, Tray control ignored.
same spoolfile 'identical' printer, same host box, Tray control obeyed.

I'm thinking its a local device override that's set in the printer.

- Bring back line printers - dumb but reliable, binary problem solving - it's broke/working, no headscratching needed.

If you have the IP addresses of these two printers, see if you can bring them up in your internet browser. Typically you will be able to see at least a basic printer interface at this point which would show you the current configuration. At that point you can compare the two and if they are indeed the same then you can rule the printers out.

Let us know how this step goes.

Good luck.
