Retail Sales: Putting the client in touch with the distributor

I'm a sales person for a consumer brand, my company has distributors overseas. and when I've created a new relationship in that geographic/demographic, my boss requires me to put the client in touch with the distributor rather than I my holding onto the account.
Does this make sense? Do I have an case that I want to collect the commission on these accounts, and not pass them off?
