Most data restoration shops can restore data which has been deleted off of the hard drive of a computer. It all depends on how the data is deleted. If the file has just been deleted then the data can usually be recovered. If the file has been overwritten with another file then it probably can not be recovered.

As for tracking IP addresses, you can use whois.com to find out who owns the block of IP addresses which the IP belongs to. For anything more specific you would have to contact the owner of the IP block.

Thank you Denny. Can you refer me to someone in your area who is available to technically make requests for and provide analysis of email and other meta data which will be discussed within federal courts. The case is already resolved and in post trial work level including appeal and bankruptcy procedures.

Ontrack Data Recovery (see: http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/)is a well known data recovery service. Deleting files only marks them for deletion in the OS, they are not removed from the hard drive until they are overwritten in which case it is still possible to recover data, even if the drive has been re-partitioned and re-formatted.

You can also track IP addresses using DNS Stuff http://www.dnsstuff.com/. For more professional assistance, I would perform a search using Windows Live Search www.live.com for conputer forensics and security consultants in your area.

It sounds like you are looking for a forensic computer specialist or expert witness. I would suggest doing a Google search for “computer forensic company”.
