Repurposed Disk In Raid

RAID 5
Hi All, We have a very old Dell 2950 (RAID 5) that is of course out of warranty. We are planning on replacing that server next month but in the mean time we have a failed drive we want to replace but we want to repurpose a drive of the same size and speed from a retired server instead of putting money into this one. That drive was previously a RAID 0 or 1. If I delete the raid array on that other server will that delete all the data so I can use that on the server with the faulty drive? Do I need to do anything else to that drive before i install it? Thanks!

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If you did delete the array on the other server, then the drive is not configured and for all practical purposes is blank from the prospective of the controller. Remove the bad drive (flashing yellow) from the “good server”, insert the new hot swap drive and it should automatically restripe. You can verify by checking the Dell OpenManage utility.
