We have a very old Dell 2950 (RAID 5) that is of course out of warranty. We are planning on replacing that server next month but in the mean time we have a failed drive we want to replace but we want to repurpose a drive of the same size and speed from a retired server instead of putting money into this one. That drive was previously a RAID 0 or 1. If I delete the raid array on that other server will that delete all the data so I can use that on the server with the faulty drive? Do I need to do anything else to that drive before i install it?
