I have a client who is buying a Lexmark printer. They want to replace their letterhead with plain white paper and have the system put on the paper the overlay that Lexmark provides?? The Lexmark person stated this is simple on the 400, you just need to update the "workstation customization file". I have no clue what that is, can anyone help me?

Prereq: 5763SS1, option 17, feature 5102 “OS/400 ? Print Services Facility/400″

One-time setup on 400:
CRTPF LIB/FILE RCDLEN(32766) MAXMBRS(*NOMAX) LVLCHK(*NO)
(This is the file you ftp the .prn to and specify on the FILE parameter of CRTOVL.)

Drivers can be downloaded from IBM’s website:

http://www.printers.ibm.com/afpdr.html

Ways to use the overlay:
? OVRPRTF QSYSPRT PAGRTT(0) FRONTOVL(OVLLIB/OVLNAME)
? CHGPRTF xxx FRONTOVL(OVLLIB/OVLNAME)

1. One-time setup: install the IBM AFP printer drivers on your PC and use these drivers to configure a “Print to File” printer on your PC.
a. There is a folder named “IbmAfpDrivers” in the “AS400 Overlays” folder. In this folder, open the “win2k” folder if you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, or open the “win9x” folder if you are using Windows 95/98/Me.
b. The setup program for Windows 2000/XP is “ibmafp2000.exe”, and the setup program for Windows 95/98/Me is “ibmafp95.exe”. Double-click the setup program for the operating system on your PC to install the driver files. Make a note of the location where the driver files are installed to, as you will need this when you click “Have disk…” in the next step.
c. After you have installed the driver files, add a new printer that prints to a file. Detailed instructions for this can be found in the README file. Make sure to select “Print to file” and use driver “IBM AFP 300″, as this works best with the IPDS printers at ABITEC.
d. Change the output type to “Overlay”.
i. Windows 2000/XP:
1. Press “Start”, “Settings”, “Printers” and right-click your “IBM AFP 300″ printer.
2. Select “Properties”.
3. On the “General” tab, press the “Printing Preferences…” button.
4. Change “Output Type” to “Overlay”.
5. Press OK.
6. Press OK.
ii. Windows 95/98/Me
1. Press “Start”, “Settings”, “Printers” and right-click your “IBM AFP 300″ printer.
2. Select “Properties”.
3. On the “Paper” tab, change “Output Type” to “Overlay”.
4. Press OK.
2. Before you change anything, make a backup copy of the Word document(s) for the overlay(s) you are going to modify.
3. Use Word to make any layout changes and save the document.
4. Print to the “IBM AFP 300″ printer. This will prompt you for the name to save the file as. Choose the name of the Word document, but with a .prn extension instead of .doc. For example, you would save the PO overlay as “po.prn”.
5. Transfer the overlay data from the .prn file to the AS/400 and create the overlay from it.
i. ftp the .prn to ABIDATA/OVERLAYS on the AS/400
1. use binary transfer mode
2. overlay names are limited to 8 characters, so choose your member name accordingly
ii. CRTOVL OVLLIB/OVLNAME PRNLIB/PRNFILE
6. As soon as you have created the new overlay on the AS/400 it will be the one sent to the printer ? even for spooled files generated while the old overlay was on the system. If you have saved a copy of the report that was using the old overlay you can take advantage of this by repeatedly releasing the same spooled file to test the new overlay.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 until the overlay prints the way you want it to.
