My knowledge of networking is rudimentary. I need assistance in replacing a ConnectGear switch in an existing network with a Cisco Catalyst 2950. The network consists of 9 clients PC's and one server running Windows Server 2003. The existing router is a Linksys BEFSR81 (8 ports) and internet access is thru an ASDL modem. AT&T is the ISP. I want to replace the ConnectGear and most of the ports off the router with the Cisco 2950. I would like to configure it as just a basic switch with nothing fancy if that is possible. Anyone who can help me? My email address is lamxguard-general@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Software/Hardware used:
Cisco Catalyst 2950, Windows Server 2003, Linksys BEFSR81, ConnectGear Switch

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You should be able to replace the ConnectGear switch (physically swap it out) and plug all existing cables from the ConnectGear and those internal cables from the Linksys onto the Cisco 2950. Leave the ASDL modem connection to the Linksys and plug the Linksys internal port into the Cisco gear and you are done. Basic layer 2.
