 removal of power on password
i have a ibm thinkpad that i bought at a rent a center which worked fine until i removed the c mos battery and reset the bios to default settings now when i power up it asked for a power on password i need help in byass or reset i have proof that i am the rightful owner thank you for your help on this matter

If the laptop is still under warranty you will probably want to call the IBM tech support number which came with the laptop. *********************************************************** Try this to remove the power-on password: Power off the computer Remove the DIMM cover on the bottom side of the computer. Short-circuit the two password pads or put a jumper on the contacts to short the circuit. Under the short-circuit condition, power on the computer and wait until the POST ends. After the POST ends, the password prompt does not appear. The power-on password is removed. ***********************************************************

i have tried removing the dimm slot and short circuit the two password chip to no avail is there a certain pins i should short as to i may have been doing it wrong

as for the waranty the waranty was already expired when i bought it from rent a center so i will have no help from ibm other than their selling me a motherboard or a harddrive even though there is nothing wrong with either one if anyone is willing to help or can help please call 205-482-6410 or 205-699-5260 thank you
