As you asked for some references, please navigate here for more help, https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/solutions/CVD/Collaboration/enterprise/11x/116/collbcvd/security.html

Not only that, you can buy some good books to gather your knowledge. For your assist, you can try this book, "Complete Book of Remote Access: Connectivity and Security", edited by Victor Kasacavage.

I want to come up with a high level security reference architecture (Genric, not product specific) in first instance and then expand for each individual sub-category by covering security best practices i.e

1 - Remote Access - It may cover all use cases where a remote worker or 3rd Party Vendor/Service Provider connects to corporate network.

2 - Research and Development Lab - Where we can provide freedom to engineers to do their day to day task and security is not blocking their show in either way, provided that they fulfill minimum security baseline i.e. Segregation from corporate network, installation of AV, Patching etc.

     Thanks in advance.
