Reinstalling Windows XP
I am trying to reinstall Windows XP on a highly infected Dell Inspiron E1705 as a starting point. It would not boot from the CD and goes straight to normal boot and freezing in the multiple virus cycle. Could it be the CD drive is not working or what can you recommend to boot from disk?

Try tapping F8 immediately upon boot to get a boot choice menu, then select to boot from the cd.

Yes, this should be much complicated. When you Computer Starts, Please change the Booting Sequence. Select CD-ROM as your Booting device. Then it should be able to boot from CD. Format the C: drive as you are running with extreme amount of VIrus.. which is safe and better… The VIrus cleaners may not clean the Infected files.
If you have the home edition of Windows XP, does it give you the option to restore to factory default status?
This would be a better way to restore to a virus free condition.
I would also suggest having a way of installing an antivirus and firewall without it being connected to the internet or lan until it is safe to do so.
F8 key is also a way of booting to safe mode to run an anti virus program. I’d try this first, before going through the trouble of reinstalling all your programs again.
On every Dell that I have worked on, hitting F12 when you first turn it on well take you to a boot menu. You should then have the option to pick the hard drive or the cd drive.
yes F12 or you hit DEL button when your Pc start this will take u in BIOS then in advance option u select First Boot device Cd/DVDrom and save setting and restart ur Pc if ur PC not boot form CD at this stage , this means ur cdrom not working or ur cd is not bootable make sure first ur cd is bootable and then ur cdrom is working and one more thing if ur cdrom is old one then make sure ur( xp cd write on 4x or 8x Speed )other wise ur cd drive no read it these r the few option ………………………
some dell pc’s that i work with comes with image on the pc that was done by dell…maybe you can check it your pc comes with that image
you should change the boot priority in the bios setting to CD-ROM (first boot device) save the setting and exit now you should be able to boot from cd and install windows and get rid of viruses.
