 Regd: PTF Installation
IBM System i 550, PTF Group Installation, PTF Upgrade, PTFs, V5R4
We are using Iseries 550 Model with V5R4M0 Installed The current PTF level in my server is PTF Group SF99540 level 10117 Installed. I need to install the PTF Group SF99540 level 10292. My question is are there any PTF's need to be installed(i.e.Hyper...) before installing Group SF99540 level 10292

Vmanchi, If you use the SNDPTFORD command or option 6 from the Go PTF Menu and order SF99540, the latest CUM PTF's, you will automatically recieve the latest HIPER and DB2 Group PTF's. If you then use option 8, same menu, you can install all PTF's, CUM, HIPER, DB2. You should review your Preventitive Service Planning documentation in advance. You may want to check the size of the PTFs before starting a download. The last cum PTF package we orderd for V5R4 earlier this year was over 3GB. That is a lot of down load time.

Check out IBM’s options at their support site. DownLoad Manager is a good tool which IBM provides free of charge. It allows you to start and stop a large download without losing data or re-starting from byte 1.

The last cum PTF package we orderd for V5R4 earlier this year was over 3GB.

Our last V5R4 cume download was 9.5GB. However, it was a cume to be applied to two V5R3 systems that had just been upgraded to V5R4. Systems that apply cumes regularly will have much smaller downloads when the downloads are allowed to be generated specifically for those systems — only the changes need to be included.

Fix central and download director are the way to go. You can select the latest cum, hiper and group ptf’s in one fell swoop. These can be downloaded to your PC or as an image catalogue on the server. We just downloaded the latest (11 GB) using DD and the download was 4 hours to the desktop. Good luck
