Regarding Nagios report generation
I have been using nagios, I took over it from a team member who installed it, so in order to take it further, i want to try and send mails to the respective email ids whenever the service or host goes down...

Where can I start from ?

Software/Hardware used:
nagios installed onVM machine, accessed through remote desktop

Answer Wiki:
First, you need to make sure that the e-mail account you wish to use to receive alerts is properly defined in the contacts configuration file (contacts.cfg), which is usually under /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/. Also, you will probably need mailx/postfix or similar packages to be able to send e-mail alerts, and you will probably need to modify your notification commands configuration file (/usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/commands.cfg) Here's a link you might find useful: Nagios Core - Notifications
