Redirecting any folders.

I need some help with redirecting a folder or folders. I am aware that this can be achieved using Active Directory but it is not an option. Tweak UI let me redirect user shell path, such as My Documents, but it still won't let me choose any folder to redirect. An example of a folder that I want to redirect is "C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution" which I believe Windows XP stores its Windows Update files and wait for user to select when to install updates (correct me if I am wrong). Are there any freeware, shareware, or software that would let me achieve this folder redirection, ofcourse, other than the Active Directory. So if the above mentioned redirection is active, when Windows write files to C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution folder, whatever software or settings would redirect all the files to another folder on the same drive, partition, or another physical HDD.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Windows unpacks patch files and service packs in a randomly named folder in the nearest bit of free space. so it could be any drive with enough room in a folder with a long hex code as a name. It downloads stuff to C:docs and settingsall usersapp datamicrosoftnetwork when getting the patches (on a domain with SUS. I assume WU does the same but I’ve never looked). I wouldn’t recommend fiddling with this system as patches going wrong is a nightmare and you could kill your OS.

That's odd, I've been copying files from SoftwareDistribution folder for a few weeks now, usually search the SoftwareDistribution folder by the KB number of the updates I just downloaded on a computer, then copy them to a shared folder so other computer can update without downloading, useful for dial-up or slow broadband situations. Wouldn't that contradicts your reply?

I know that you can redirect Application Data, Desktop, My Documents, and Start Menu via a Group Policy. However, I am not aware of being able to redirect other folders unless you create a custom ADM file.
