 Recovery to a Remote Site

We take nightly full backups of an 9i database using RMAN. We plan to ship the backup tapes tapes and archive logs to a remote site. (We also use Dataguard between the two sites, but the question is not related to Dataguard). Question: If I were to lose the entire primary site (fire), can I use the backup tapes without accessing to RMAN catalogue in the main site? Do I need to install RMAN on the remote just to run a recovery?

If you still have the controlfile of the database you should be able to use that one instead of the cataloque.
