 Recovering an Exchange 2003 mailbox after migration to Exchange 2007 is complete.

What is the best way to recover an Exchange 2003 mailbox after migration to Exchange 2007 is complete. Completed migration to Exchange 2007 in mid-June 2008. Now upper management wants to see the contents of a users Inbox from the end of March 2008. I have the Exchange 2003 database backed up on tape from the end of March. We do not do mailbox level backups, only database backups. We were using ArcServe 11.5 in March and are now using ArcServe 12. If it matters, the Exchange 2003 server is not in the same state it was at the time migration completeed. For testing purposes of other items, AD and DNS were installed after the migration.

There are 2 basic approaches: 1 - restore to an Exchange 2003 server. Means you need the Exchange 2003 server. We virtuilize the last one as part of a migration just in case 2 - Use Quest's Recovery Manager for Exchange <a href="http://www.quest.com/recovery-manager-for-exchange/"> </a> or Ontrack''s PowerControls <a href="http://http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/email-recovery/"></a> Both will let you restore messages or mailboxes from full backups without a full restore.

I need to restore a users mailbox from 5 months ago when we were on Exchagne 2003 so upper management can see the contents of it at that time. I have the database backup. Exchange 2007 will not allow a restore to a Recovery Storage Group of the Exchange 2003 database. Thus my perceived dilema. How can I extract the mailbox from the 2003 database that I have on tape when I do not have an Exchagne 2003 server anymore.
