 recovering a deleted exchange mailbox
We accidentally deleted a users account and her Exchange mailbox losing about 230mb of mail. Does anyone know how to recover from this without a current backup? This user doesn't have a .pst file that could be uploaded. All of our servers are Windows 2000. One domain controller. One Exchange member server. The others are member servers (File, Print, Util). Thanks in advance.

Answer Wiki:
Exchange doesn't normally delete the mailbox straight away. Have you checked in System Manager in the mailbox store to see if it's still there; disconnected with a red cross next to it? If you got lucky you need to create a new user without a mailbox then you can attach this deleted mailbox back to this new user. Otherwise, sorry if no backup or pst I can't think of a way to recover it. Maybe there is an archive pst? What about offline folders? (.ost I think.) Good luck

There is a great document: Mailbox Recovery for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server basically same for 2003. Scanpst.exe works for offline OST files as well. Unfortunately Outlook 2003 last checked you will need to purchase conversion utility (2000 you can find free version) pricy but works well. Otherwise you can find services that work at reasonable price (pwcrack.com is one that works) Good luck

Look at this Microsoft article that explains the process.

If you can get the .ost (offline file) file from their computer, you can get a 3rd party program called OST2PST. Works great, I’ve used it several times. Cost about $100
