Recommendation for Layer 3 switch and firewall
Our school division is made up of seven schools. All schools point back to the central office location where all Internet traffic comes through. I have to setup subnets and VLANS at each school. Can you recommend a make/model of layer 3 switches for each school and for the main central office location. I also need to purchase a firewall that can handle VLAN's. Please recommend as well. For the firewall I was considering a GB-2000X Firewall Appliance.

Hi Skenny, Of course not knowing more about your school or your budget, it's difficult to give specifics. However, Allied Telesis has several case studies of school installations. It's always best to go with a proven network solution. The case studies are available online. Here is one about St Swithun's school in England which links together several schools to a central location and single internet connection point. http://www.alliedtelesis.com/media/pdf/stswithunsschool_cs.pdf There are other examples such as 'The loop' in Nelson, New Zealand. This is a fiber optic network. Here you can find all of the case studies: http://www.alliedtelesis.com/resources/literature/literature.aspx?id=2 Steve
