I don't know about the last three months but in my opinion, small hardware security devices that include VPN, Firewall protection, virus protection, content filtering etc have become fairly inexpensive, comprehensive solutions for smaller businesses. There are many vendors manufacturing such devices now but I personally like some of the SonicWall solutions.

AS far as what the latest is I am not sure but I do know that Symantec is trying to redesign their firwewall and anti-virus. With Sonicwall it is very expensive to get, around 300-500 for personal use, but whats the price of protecting your computers.
Rather than answering your question outright, I’d rather offer a recipe to help you answer it for yourself while also observing that this is a pretty tall order to fulfill, unless you can refine your query somewhat to scope down the incredible range of topics, tools, and technologies that (knowingly or otherwise) you’re implicitly asking about.
As far as Sonicwall goes: I was at a convention in August, where a VAR told me that the latest rev of Sonicwall is fantastic… eliminated a whole host of calls from his clients.
Also, what kind of new technology are you looking for? Firewalls, VPNs, IDS… If you can narrow your search, that will help you immensely with your endeavors.

That said, I’d recommend reviewing the news at http://www.searchsecurity.com, and at other important security portals (for example, http://www.securityfocus.com, http://www.securitywatch.com, and http://www.packetstorm.com) to try to identify what fields or technologies might be of further interest to you, then start zeroing in on news and developments that match those interests.
Good luck with your inquiries.

Hello,
This SearchSecurity.com’s associate editor here to help point you in a couple directions. For starters, I think Ed Tittel’s advice about visiting our news section at http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/news/0,289141,sid14,00.html for product news is a great place to start. I’d also recommend visit the product reviews on “Information Security” mag’s site here: http://infosecuritymag.techtarget.com/ss/0,295804,sid6_iss486,00.html#departments or the archives here: http://infosecuritymag.techtarget.com/archives.shtml.
Also, what kind of new technology are you looking for? Firewalls, VPNs, IDS… If you can narrow your search, that will help you immensely with your endeavors.
Feel free to e-mail me at mshopis@techtarget.com, if you have any other questions.
Hope that helps,
