Hi, I wanted to know how to start off by understanding SAP architecture (it is defintely huge and complex). Basically, I would like to connect to a SAP system from Java and read data from the SAP system. I understand that a Java connector is needed for this, but wasn't able to find a free trial version - do you know if one exists or how to get one ?. Also, is there any free SAP trial software that could be used to test this out ? I was looking on the SAP SDN site and there are so many trial softwares, that I didn't know where to start. Also, could you please guide me as to what it takes to read data from a SAP system? Thx a ton.

Best overview article for getting started with JCo http://www.vogella.de/articles/SAPJCo/article.html Note that JCo 3.x is the new standard, lots of examples/references you may find on web may be outdated as v3 changed a lot.

While searching some more, I came across the SAP NetWeaver 7.01 - ABAP Trial Version. Could this be used as a SAP system for test purposes? Would it be possible create database objects using this version? Also which JCo version would be needed to connect to this system? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
