 Quck question regarding ms sysprep

Hi, Is it possible to use sysprep to change the SID of a win2k server after it has been built? I have found a 3rd party util with this functionality but wanted to check if sysprep can achieve the same, before I go ahead and buy the other util. Thanks, LP

One of the things that sysprep is supposed to do is strip the SID. To quote from knowledgebase article 298491: "One problem from duplicating an installation of Windows 2000 is that each cloned computer has the same security identifier (SID) and computer name. This may prevent the cloned computers from functioning correctly in a workgroup or a domain. To work around this problem, administrators use the System Preparation Tool (Sysprep.exe) to remove configuration settings that are unique to the computer such as the computer name and SID. The resulting image can then be safely reused for installation on other computers."

We actually use sysprep daily in our virtual world. We can create many servers in short order using templates and sysprep.
