Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Every individual job on the AS400 has its own QTEMP library.

Two sessions with the same ID are still two separate jobs so each will have its own QTEMP.

“suppose we have one session and two jobs” – ? I don’t understand what you mean here. If you mean 2 batch jobs submitted from the same session, then my first answer applies as they are 2 new jobs and each will have its own QTEMP.

In short it is not possible for multiple jobs to share a QTEMP library.

Each and every job on the system gets its own unique job number so for the purposes of distinguishing the difference between 2 5250 green screen sessions each will have their own device ID/User/job number. In the case where a batch job is submitted from that green screen session, it to will have the job name/user/job number. Each and every job uses these 3 pieces of information to create a truely separate job. In the case of batch jobs, type "WRKJOB jobname" on the command line and you will see the job listed mutliple times if it has run multiple times and each one will have a user and a unique job number. The job number is 6 digits and the system will roll those job numbers back to 000001 when completing the cycle. IBM assumes that you will not have more then 999,999 jobs on the system with the same job name/user/job number at any one time. Hope this helps.

Sharing data between jobs is possible but require using objects that are not in QTEMP - data files is a library other then QTEMP - data areas in a library other that QTEMP - data queues Phil L
