I have a pool of 75 sessions which can be open at one time. They have been varying off for no known reason (not security issue)

Software/Hardware used:
version r4v5

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

They ususally get varied off because of an abnormal end. Either connection was lost or the user(s) ended the session without logging off. If your problem is the configuration descriptions are not available at next loggin attempt, you could write a program to read a file in a list you create by dspobjd to an outfile and dbu down to the cfgs you want to manage that varies them all off with a monmsg to ignore failures then varies them all back on to be sure they are in a ready state.

There are other ways to handle this but that may be the quickest fix.

Devices shouldn't vary off just because of a disconnect while active. At least, they don't for me -- they simply revert to "VARY ON PENDING". (not security issue) How was this determined? Tom

DSPLOG to *print and review it to see what happened. You get something Like : CPC2606 00 COMPLETION Vary off completed for device QDEV1856. QBATCH QSYSOPR 190543 which should help resolve why and at least who.what did it.

Check: System value . . . . . : QMAXSGNACN Description . . . . . : Action to take for failed signon attempts Action to take for failed password attempts . . . . . . : 2 1=Disable device 2=Disable profile 3=Disable device and profile If this is 1 or 3, repeated bad password will cause device, even a QPADEV*, to vary off.
