Hi, Question on QMAXJOB / DSPJOBTBL. Running 5.1, the other day we had a situation where due to a program error the number of jobog files ran up. So did the number of jobs giving errors on the number of jobs. This forced to raise the QMAXJOB variable. Now the problem is resolved we still have a high number of (available) jobs. Is there a way to clean this up as (I think) it slows down performance. An IPL is not sheduled yet. Thanks, Erik

Erik, I’m not sure if the excessive Conrol Block Tables do impact performance but it would seem that your only course for cleaning them up, is an IPL…..Search for 862565FB00503F52 at http://www-912.ibm.com/ImprovedSearch/searchoptions.jsp for details.

I haven’t seen large job tables affect daily performance, but it probably does when extremes have been reached. I’ve seen systems with hundreds of thousands of jobs.

You can lower the QMAXJOB system value at any time. However the actual system implementation of the new number happens during IPL, An IPL is when the job tables are created.
