We have been having massive problems with a storage array (Dell md3000i). The issue has been escalated to the highest levels of Tech Support, at which point they advised us that we have a "punctured stripe" on our array. The prescribed resolution is to vacate, wipe-out and re-build the array, then re-populate.
I am wondering if there are other known & proven ways to resolve a punctured stripe (?)
Also, Dell advised us that the problem may have occurred several months ago, based on analysis of error logs, etc. I am wondering if there are early warning signs of a punctured stripe, as the symptoms often indicate drive or controller issues at their initial stages.

Regarding a Punctured Stripe on a RAID 5, has anyone filed a claim with their insurance for the business interruption? What were the results?
