A user recently submitted this question via e-mail: I have seen private companies offer the capability to pull data and files from virtual disks after the VMs become inaccessible. Can I do this myself?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If the VMDK isn’t damaged you can simply attach it to another VM and get what ever data you need from it.

It is has been damaged I’m sure that you can find utilities that can be used to mount the file to a machine and get what data can be recovered off of it.

If the file has been damaged badly enough a hex editor might be your best bet.
