Exchange 2003 Public Folders, only able to view in 1 site
Hi we have three sites on one active directory domain using exchange 2003, the issue we have is viewing the public folders on the outlook client. The main site which hosts the primary domain controller does not have this issue only the two other sites. When attempting to expand the public folders in outlook get the following error "Unable to expand the folder. The Set of folders could not be opened." When in cached mode can expand public folders to view favourites and All public folders when trying to expand All public folders get the following error "Unable to expand the folder. The attempt to log on to the Microsoft exchange Server Computer has failed." Also when in cached mode get the following sync issues 16:50:07 Synchronizer Version 11.0.8303 16:50:07          Could not connect to public folder server. 16:50:07          [8004011D-512-8004010F-0] 16:50:07          The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed. (/o=Domain/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=Servername) 16:50:07          Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store 16:50:07          For more information on this failure, click the URL below: 16:50:07          http://www.microsoft.com/support/prodredirect/outlook2000_us.asp?err=8004011d-512-8004010f-0 16:50:07          Not downloading Offline address book files (stored on public folder server). 16:50:07 Synchronizing Mailbox 'User' 16:50:07 Synchronizing Hierarchy 16:50:07 Done  Note. I have removed the domain name, server name and user name for privacy reasons. As well as these issues when trying to resend changes on System Manager get the following error "You may not send changes. Either there are not enough replicas or you don't have permissions to the public folder stores. ID no: c1038a72 Exchange System Manager.  Not sure if this is a permissions, domain or exchange issue, anyone got any ideas on where to go with this I've exhausted my knowledge. Thanks Sharlene

I would run a Exchange best practice analyzer and see what i get .Can you email from problematic site to the other one .How about using PFDavAdmin to check the public folders.
Please let me know If can i help further.I will post if something comes to mind.

Thanks for the quick response. I have downloaded the PFDAVAdmin tool and ran it on the exchange server however got the following error.

“An error occurred while trying to establish a connection to the Exchange server.Be sure that port 443 (for SSL) or port 80 (for non-SSL) can be reached. If you are connecting to public folders, be sure that the public store is mounted. If you are connecting to mailboxes and the progress bar shows a particular mailbox, be sure that user has at least one email address.

Exception: Failed to connect using secure URL https://(My Server Name)/ExAdmin/Admin/(MY Domain)/public%20folders/ with error: The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable.. Failed to connect using unsecure URL
http://(MY Server Name)/ExAdmin/Admin/(MY Doman)/public%20folders/ with error: The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable..”

Note. As before have taken out server name and domain name.

Reading up on this error suggestions have pointed to having http forwarding on and IIS issues with the virtual machine, not really sure with any of these any advice?

Thanks

can we look at iis logs while connecting to the public folder
also note
If the Mapi Top Level Hierarchy (TLH) object is renamed, you will run into this
problem. When you first attempt to connect to a public store with PFDAVADMIN, it attempts to connect to the MAPI TLH object. The default name is hardcoded within PFDAVADMIN so
if it’s renamed, you will run into this problem.

So I’ve solved one of my issues, the trees created were general purpose trees so I recreated the folder hierarchies using ADSI edit and set them to be MAPI trees by changing the msExchPFTreeType value to 1. Also I checked the properties of the Mailbox and found the Default public folder to be the wrong value. I am now at the stage where the only sync issues I have whilst in sync mode are regarding the offline address book, as far as i’m aware an offline address book hasn’t been created any ideas how i go about this? Still having issues when trying to resend changes between the folder heirarchies.

Thanks
