Pros and cons of data center in a box?
I read that while data centers in a box were booming, it wasn't because of the portability or flexibility but because of the price. Any data center pros out there: Has your company bought one? Were they a quick fix for an urgent need or a long-term solution?
I'd love to hear your take on the pros and cons of a data center you can haul around with a trailer hitch.

Answer Wiki:
Well you really can't haul them around with a trailer hitch (fully provisioned, they can weight a half-million pounds!) There is no absolute rule when comparing costs, but experience has shown most containerized data center projects are about 70-80% of the cost of brick-and-mortar.

I would be remiss if I failed to point out one of the biggest advantages of containerized solutions vs. brick & mortar: speed!

The average brick & mortar data center takes 6-24 months (12-18 being most common) from concept thru commissioning; there are several containerized solution providers who can deliver one (including servers, power, cooling, & internal networking) between 6-12 *weeks*!
