Project management, network design for public hotspot

Project management, Network design, Wireless networking, Network access, Hot spots, Routers, LAN

I want to provide a public hot spot at my restaurant but I need to protect the computers that are on the wired LAN created by the WAP router.

I need to protect the wired devices from unauthorized access but still provide authorized access for PC-Anywhere and video surveillance cameras.

How can I do this?

there are some free open source systems you can use for wifi hotspots. You could use ipcop which has built in setups for internal, external and wifi connections. here are a few articles:

http://digg.com/linux_unix/How_to_Setup_a_Wi-Fi_Hotspot

but you are going about it right by thinking security first. that is the most important item for any network setup. Good luck!

Implementing a firewall is the most cost effective solution. IPCop is a great solution and easy to use. If you want something that is commercially supported...and has builtin Antivirus and Intrusion Detection check out Fortinet. Look at the Wifi Models 50 or 60.

Good Luck,
