Q:
Project management advice: executing an implementation schedule
I am planning to implement a campus wireless network in my organization. The work has been awarded to a contractor. How do I go about the implementation schedule? Can I prepare any chart to keep track of the implementation schedule?

The company that was awarded the contract should have provided the implementation schedule for you at the time of the bid. If not, then I strongly suggest you ask for one prior to starting the work. This will give you something to measure. You can try to come up with your own, but you will need to know the hours they will work on each part of the project, the number of resources, and what is required for testing and final approval (some of this information will come from you). It is in your best interest to have a project kick off meeting first. Develop the schedules, testing and approval procedures, and then begin. The best projects start with a good plan.

Your input to this process, will be to prioritise the areas which need to be completed first. This you should pass to the contractor, and, as Chigbie said, they will then provide you with a scedule of works. You then agree to this, and then you all know where you stand.

Also as Chigbie said, you MUST agree the timescale with the contactor, BEFORE the work commences. Otherwise you are both working in the dark, and each will expect things to happen at different times, which can only lead to problems.

In fact, if they are not asking for this meeting, I would question if you have chosen the right contractor !
