many IT problems unsolved! What You can work on mainly depends on your focus. Can you do data modelling? Can you do application design? Are you more into scientifical stuff? Maybe you could go into web-development and explain to the rest of the world, why to use .NET or Websphere, SOA or the mystical IBM Enterprise Service Bus. Select any topic around the web, and you can’t go wrong. Take into consideration migration of existing applications, a clear concept of the application layers, security, the communication level and the aspect of administering all this stuff. The latter is one touchy thing. Mix up Websphere and .NET, simplify everything, explain what you’re doing so that people understand, make it practical and useable, and you’ll be award winning. Always keep in mind that the main IT-problem is NOT getting data out of a base, but getting data in depending on varying business policies.
Good luck from Germany!

One problem that seriously needs attention is determining how students can make it to their final year of “comp. engg.” without being able to spell or to punctuate properly.
