I have had a request from a developer for the following: Utility program required so that a PF file and library can be specifed with starting date / time and ending date / time. This utility will then extract all the current journal records for that file, including the journal fields e.g. user, program, date, time, and also all the fields from the journalled PF record specified in a readable/queryable format. This is similar to using the DSPJRN command and specifying an *OUTFILE but make all the entry secific data readable in one easy step. Any pointers as to whether this is fairly simple or involves major code to be written?

Hi,

Don’t think it should take too much work. The request comes from a developer, so why not ask the developer to write it?

Regards,

Martin Gilbert.

I think TAATOOLS has something to do this.

If you were to do it yourself,
(1) make a physical file which included the Journal fields and then all the fields of the file.
(2)dspjrn data to an outfile.that file with *NOCHK
(3)cpyf outfile to your pf with *NOCHK

if you email me I can send you an easy one I wrote. This one takes your journals every night puts them into there own file name with the day of week ( numeric ). This way it keeps 30 days of journals for you. You can specify what files you want also. Then it deletes the receiver at night and aasigns a new one ready for the next day.
