Q:
% Processor time
Hi, I have a slight concern that the sevice may have an impact on the amount of time the processor is utilized. The % utilization was running at times near 50% before I installed a new service on my server. I would like to be notify it the processor utilization goes above 60%. How can this be done and what other actions can I configure if this occurs? Would appreciate it if someone can help me with this.

Using the system performance monitor, you can set alerts. Expand Peformance Logs and Alerts. Click on Alerts. Right click on the window to the right and click on New Alert Settings. Set the alert parameters and in the action tab Check Send a Network message to. Put your computer name in the field.

Make sure the Messenger service is started on your machine otherwise you will not recieve any messages.

You can use Solarwinds and the following instructions for setting up threshold for alerting CPU utilization

Basic Alerts

Start > All Programs > Solarwinds Orion > System Manager

Alerts > Configure Basic Alerts

Advanced Alerts

Start > All Programs > Solarwinds Orion > Alerting, Reporting and Mapping > Advanced Alert Manager

You should then be able to edit the CPU alert you or one of your colleague configured.

If you are looking for a way to modify the thresholds of the webconsole:

Login as an admin.

Click on Admin > NPM Settings

Edit the CPU Load “High Level” and “Warning Level” settings.

Thanks
FZ
