HI i am working on a sap application where the OS is OS400 and the Data Base is DB2/400, now i want to know the process of swapping the kernels Can any one explain it or refer some meteral for teh same . thanks in advance kiran

The cocepts of “swapping the kernels” does not apply in OS/400
Every component of the op sys and database are automatically and virtually controlled by the OS.
Unless SAP has a kernel, this concept is foreign to the AS/400

    As I understand it - and I may be wrong - "swapping kernals" allows you to essentially change your O/S. Phil is right - OS400 and DB2/400 are tightly integrated. You won't be changing the OS of DB2/400 unless you are applying PTFs or upgrading the OS. A quick search turned up an IBM Redbook for implementing SAP R/3 on OS400. That might help. Regards Mike

    A quick search on kernel swapping sounds like it has to deal with page swapping in memory, and swapping between memory and disk, etc. So as mentioned, OS/400 (now known as IBM i) manages all of that, so you don't have to deal with it. It really is a great and robust operating system. More of the world should know this!
